Mark Vette's Auckland behaviour clinic has been specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of pet behaviour problems for over 30 years. Our lead behaviour consultant Mark Vette, has a master's degree in the Animal Behaviour field and is one of the only professionally qualified Animal Behaviour Consultants in New Zealand.

The majority of our clients are dogs and cats, but we also have knowledge of most other pet species and are in touch with many other animal behaviour specialists world-wide.

Mark has trained and practised in Clinical Animal Psychology and is know in the profession as the expert in this field. Mark's expertise has been utilised for local government, council welfare groups and a variety of animal organisations. He has shared his knowledge with students of animal behaviour, in classrooms at Auckland and Massey Universities. He is also a well known TV commentator on current animal subjects.
The three main services we offer are face to face consults, telephone consultation and in clinic treatment. Consultations are operated on week days by arrangement with the clinic. Consults run for up to two hours, during which time a full history of the problem is gathered, a diagnosis is made, and therapy plan presented.

A telephone follow up service is included as part of the consultation fee. It is important for the animal to attend the consult, as well as any of the people involved in the animals care. Fee for a consultation with Mark Vette at his Waimauku facility is $200.

This is operated so that clients with simple problems or those who are unable to visit our facility can be helped. This is a person to person call with our consultants Mark Vette and Kim Lux. Because this is person to person, you will need to call and arrange a time suitable for the telephone consultation. Telephone consultations cost $50 per 15 minute's.

For more difficult and serious behaviour problems we offer in Clinic treatment. We have a state of the Art facility where we can hold dogs for up to 3 weeks. This allows us more time to apply one on one sophisticated treatment techniques to modify resistant and difficult behaviour problems.

Most of our work is through Vet referral and we often work closely with the Vets making sure a complete treatment plan is enacted.

PROBLEMS WE CAN TREAT:

  • Aggression
  • Phobias
  • Inappropriate predatory behaviour
  • Hyper activity
  • Barking
  • House training
  • Separation anxiety

OTHER SERVICES:

  • Obedience Training
  • Suitable Pet Selection
  • General Animal Advice

The behaviour clinic is also involved with Welfare work for agencies such as the SPCA.

The normal protocol is to come for a consultation that lasts about an hour to two hours and in that time a differential diagnosis is made and a therapy plan drawn up and recommended. If this is agreed upon then we proceed to take the dog or dogs into clinic and work them through the therapy plan. We have a very high rate of success and in almost all cases have a high level of client appreciation.

At the end of Clinic treatment we transfer the training to the owner and the whole family so they learn any new commands and further training. Follow up support via email and phone is also included in the cost of Clinic treatment. We have sophisticated training aids as well as support DVD's tapes and equipment that are state of the art in terms of being able to modify long term serious problems. Most Vets are familiar with Marks work and will refer if you enquire.

The cost is on a time basis as to how long the therapy takes which differs from case to case. It averages at about $600 to $700 per week and includes board, food and GST.
